Leave a Mark
by Lindsey Lane Lorefice
written after visiting The Killing Fields, May 2013 I weep on my pillow, I cower in the dark, You warn words won’t hurt me, And yet, they leave a mark. I’m bruised from your battles, I’m broken from your force, I’m bloodied from your fists, And yet, I stay the course. I fall beneath your feet, I’m silent on the floor, I’m numb from all the pain, And yet, can’t find the door. I kneel in my despair, I pray for those to help, I plead to be rescued, And yet, you drown my yelp. I’m lost in home and hearth, I’m dead in life and love, I hope you hear my song, And send it to above. |
